Minimum Wage in NY State - Walrath Recruiting, Inc.
Minimum Wage in NY State - Walrath Recruiting, Inc. Starting at the beginning of the New Year in 2017, the minimum wage in NY will begin to rise. This is part of a plan to bring the minimum wage up to $15.00 by the end of 2021. However, the raises are being implemented differently across the state. Certain zones have different rates they will increase at, and will also jump higher initially. Well discuss exact breakdowns below. Minimum Wage What to Expect Firstly, the above diagram shows the breakdown by geographic region of new minimum wages. As you can see, the wages will increase at different rates and in different increments based on region and company size. There is much more information in the full document release which can be found here. The first phase of the pay bumps will take effect December 31st, which is why it is currently so talked about. While the nationwide overtime rule may be stuck in limbo, NY State is charging ahead with the minimum wage increase. Examining the full document illustrates how the rate will slowly be increased to $15 by 2021. Most companies have already accounted for this change. If your job is currently at the minimum wage rate, expect changes by the beginning of the year. If no changes are made, your employer may be illegally paying you under the new minimum wage rate. Keep in mind that the plan doesnt equally distribute the rate increase. Instead the fractional hikes are different depending on which area of NY state you are in. Expect to see a hike in your pay check early next year if you are currently at minimum wage.
